Race Gender Religion and Politics: Lebron James Gisele Vogue Cover

Why not stir things up a little by posting other people's opinion?

Article on Gender Wars. Regarding what hatred towards Clinton may mean in general. (wsj, subscription required)

Have you heard about the controversy of theLebron/Gisele Vogue cover? Via TheBigLead, via Gawker.

Talk about white basketball players on 1st take. (again via TheBigLead)

I think that is enough for now. i was going to link to a Charles Barkley interview, but maybe later. Happy Saturday! I leave you with my favorite song today, an old one:

Oh, and what the hell. We might as well throw religion into this text so we can insult everybody equally. My doorbell rang this morning. My house is situated so that you can't come to my front door without going through a locked gate. Makes it good to mitigate against solicitors. Makes it sucks when the doorbell rings, because that means someone is standing at my driveway wanting to talk to me.

So my first thought is, oh it's the pillows I ordered from Overstock. The UPS guy rings the bell than usually throws the package over the gate. I get my keys. I almost open the door than realize my alarm is still set. Turn off alarm. This is Saturday morning, I have barely had my coffee and My hair is, lets just say a little greasy and not with a ballcap on.

I walk outside and there is a nicely dressed older man at my gate. He starts to introduce himself. I think it's my neighbor's father visiting? Locked out? No, he says he is the Pastor from the local Church. And here is Reverend so-and-so, who pops out from behind the front. "We are here visiting people who are new to the neighborhood"

I stop in my tracks. The difference is they are not at my front door, I don't have to be rude and find a way to shut the door. In the old house I would just wave at them from the window as they rung the doorbell and not answer the door. But I have walked halfway down the sidewalk. Because I thought it was the postman. And they are interrupting my morning routine.

I wave. I say "thanks for visiting" and I turn around and walk back into my house. They appeared stunned. "Uh okay" I think I heard. Am I excepted the hear their pitch? Do I have to be nice just because they are pastors? They are still strangers disturbing my morning. I think I was nice enough. Do I listen to them for five minutes between the rod iron gate? I think I did the right thing without being rude.

eta: Why am I worried about being rude? They rung my doorbell. do they presume everyone in this new neighborhood is Christian? That alone is insulting.

Nike Sparx: My Better is Better than your Better

I love this commercial. I love all Nike commercials. I am a Nike whore.

Quikie von quik quik.

My quik smells like your French Toast.

One last American Idol Post; Televisionwithoutpity

I really like televisionwithoutpity. I link to them to the right. I like their AI reviewers this year, they usually say how I feel. Like Zap2it and Alan Sepinwall, so I will link to a page on the review of David Cook's cover of Chris Cornell's cover of Billie Jean. Great but boring, not original, Daughtery being Daugherty, etc.)

And the review of my possibly favorite AI performance ever, Chikiesi's performance on Beatle week. (please don't make me learn how to spell his name. he won't last much longer either) ("You've just got to see this! It's so amazing! That is one of the best things I've ever seen on this show and I don't even know what words to use.")

They do great recaps of shows I love: How I met Your Mother, The Wire (sad face), this show, classic Buffy and Angel, The Office, 30 Rock, and Battlestar Galactica. check it out.

American Idol review

Zap2it has a good play by play.

Clearly David Cook was the best. I am getting some defensive anonymous posts (don't be a tool? what grade are you in?) about me calling it a cover of a cover.

It is. I know all songs are covers, but I'm just telling the judges not to call him original. They acknowledged Chris Cornell, thanks to Chris Daugherty Live-gate from a couple of years ago.

It was definately the best of the night. I'm glad David A. stumbled. He's not even leading dial idol anymore.

I like Carly a lot, but I think this may be it for her. She looks to stiff.

David Cook - Billie Jean Chris Cornell Cover of a cover

I got a head's up on this - the blogoverse knows what is what. He did exactly a Chris Cornell Cover of Billie Jean. Yes it was acknowledged, but he is just now stripping every rock cover of every song he does. He is not original. he is good, but don't call him original. We got fooled when Daugherty did the Live version of Walk the Line - We won't bet fooled twice.

Hear Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean here. Can't wait for the mainstream media to pick this up tomorrow.

*ok i hear it was acknowledged. It was a good cover but please don't call him original. I'll take Cook any day over the other David. Thanks for commenting!

Financial Advice - The Millionaire Next Door

Article in nytimes offering advice in these tough times. I noticed a sentence in the article: "A good indicator that things are going in the wrong direction, he said, is if your credit card balance has been rising in the last year but your savings balance has been falling."

Really, I don't get people who live that way. I guess I was raised differently. I never bought something I couldn't afford. I pay off my credit card every month. My debt is my house (2 homes, actually). That's it. My cars are paid off. I don't do impulse buying. I have a cat. Makes no sense to this paragraph but thought I would mention it.

Buy this book if you want to live smart, financially. It's a great theory.

Don't buy what you can't pay for. Don't get zero down mortgages. Don't get an ARM if you don't realize that payments will go up when the interest rate does. Own a car for 10 years. Don't get Starbucks every day. Do you know what $2 a day can do for you, in your pocket? Join a gym. You will feel healthier and happier. Pack a lunch. Sell stuff in your closet on ebay.

I'm not calling anyone stupid, but just do the research. Buy milk, bread and gasoline to function in life. The rest is just bonus.

Sunday Morning Haggle: A bad economy is good for buyers

Interesting article on nytimes about how the megastores (Best Buy, Home Depot) allow haggling. I had no idea. I'm going to try it next time. I bought my grasshog from Home Depot even though it was $10 less on amazon, with free shipping and no tax. If I brought that up with a sales associate, I would have gotten it cheaper. Who new?

This is a Test of Hulu embed

embedding select scenes. but I'm being random here.

Hulu: youtube for NBC

I can't remember if I pimped www.hulu.com or not. It's NBC and other affiliates answer to Youtube. The difference is, it is all approved, legal content posted by content owners. Check it out - It has all SNL, lots of Simpsons, a lot of Arrested Developments, and full length movies like 28 Days Later. The catch, if there is one, is the occasional ad either up front or streaming on the bottom. Not bad for a full length movie for free!

Here is SNL Tina Fey's clip, which won't get pulled: Bitch is the New Black

and, one of my favorite segments, "Really with Seth and Amy"

EW stories - New show updates; Top 25 Indy Albums ever

EW is good at lists. Here is a story about the inside of 26 shows this spring.

Here's another on it's list of top 25 Indie-rock albums. "Why do we love indie rock? Because it shuns everything that is prefab, safe, typical. It's about freedom, expression, passion — no rules, man! But in order to narrow down hundreds of hours of incredible musical output from the last two and a half decades, we had to apply some...well, rules: 1. Only one album may represent each year (hence the inclusion, in some cases, of too-hard-to-dismiss runners-up, and a number of difficult compromises we had to make). 2. All the bands had to have been signed to an independent label for the given album (ergo, the absence of Nirvana and the Flaming Lips, whose true genius didn't manifest itself until they graduated to the big leagues, but the inclusion of My Bloody Valentine and the Pixies, who originally signed to small labels in the U.K.). 3. The term ''band'' must be taken literally (thus eliminating otherwise unimpeachable artists like Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens, and Cat Power). Even still, there was many an internal battle over the final choices here at EW headquarters, and resentments that will surely fester long after this issue has run its course. But isn't that the beauty of it all — the fact that we had such a wealth to choose from? Our picks, and those unpicked, will no doubt spark debate with you as well; in fact, we hope it does. Because that, friends, is rock & roll.

This May not be Wedding Cake; Direct TV Scheduler

OK, I mentioned this many posts ago, but Direct TV scheduler, the beta now works with my system. SO, anywhere in the world with the internet I can set my home DVR to record a show. AWESOME! It is free, you need a higher-end DVR, but so cool. I set a recording for "The Reaper" from the office today and I came home and it was scheduled! If this alone isn't a reason to get DIRECT TV, I don't know what is. (Real life situation, I was in Calgary in January and read on the airplane that 30 Rock was having a new episode, and I wasn't going to have it recorded. Now, no problem!) (I don't work for Direct TV. I pimp what I love) (And I can do it from my blackberry!!!)

On a happier note, here is Spoon The Underdog from Letterman:

Last Night David Letterman Top 10: Battlestar Galactica

I had no idea they were going to do this. Even with my recent 8 minute post. I taped Letterman last night because the Gutter Twins were on. I am the luckiest mofo in the world.

Idol; Destroyer Foam Hands

I won't link to any idol posts today. You know where to go - What's Alan Watching, and Zap2it.

kay so I linked. I'm watching right now and CARLY is in the bottom three. Are you kidding me???

I like this song, don't know why but i do: Destroyer, Foam Hands

Saturday Night Post

Don't know why I thought of this, but it's the original Jennifer Holliday Tony performance of Dreamgirls classic, "And I am Telling You"

I Have Hever Mowed a Lawn in my Life

Until today. Well, I have such little grass I can't justify paying someone $20 a month to mow it. I could, but I figure it is like washing your car (I did that today too) - get outside, get some sun, get some exercise.

I bought a Grasshog from Black & Decker. Got pretty lousy reviews on Amazon, but I figured you get what you pay for. $50 out the door from homedepot. Worked great, takes more effort then I realized. My forearm is going to be sore tomorrow.

So here is the ethical question. I don't talk to my neighbors, they don't talk to me. We share the same grass, like 3x10 total. I of course cut there grass, but should I? What if they get mad because I did a bad job? I left grass on there driveway. But it would look worse if I only cut have the grass swatch? what do you think I should do?

I'm going to post a pic of the grass so you see what I am talking about. Meanwhile, here is my grasshog.

Lost night

Been working hard, so going to link to just a couple of posts.

nytimes article on the simplicity of the push up.

The Big Lead, a sports blog I link to on the right, has been outed, or officially named and not anonymous no more.

The hype Machine, a music blogger aggregate, linked right, was named on G4 Attack of the Show today. Along with record lbl, which I haven't researched today.

My work lets me stream www.pandora.com, and I got 2 people hooked on it today. One guy created a "linkin park" station.

American Idol - the Final 12

I'm liking it so far. Here's Alan Sepinwall's article about the inevitable winner. I agree with all the comments - The first girl stank, the Asian girl stank, Jucizzi actually had a lot of fun and did awesome, Rocker guy was good, country girl was bad, the Aggie was okay, the Australian was average, Irish chick ROCKED THE HOUSE, Amanda was okay, and David A, who hasn't even sang as of this posting, is THE CHOSEN ONE.

post show analysis. Did you notice above I completely forgot about Brooke? She's not forgettable, just so reliable she is out of this class. Like Melinda. Better than AI. Who else did I forget, no that's all 12.

We lost our soccer game tonight. I had 2 assists but no goals and girls need to score to get more points. I need to shoot more and pass less, which isn't my style but necessary for coed soccer.

good night

9/11 staircase

God, don't even get me started on 9/11. I still cry. here's a good story about the staircase.

The Wire

tonight is the Wire last episode. Here's a good looking back, from Alan Sepinwall. Lots of youtube links. Awesome!

Commercials

I really like this commercial. It is smart and funny. I bet 80% of Honda Element owners own a dog. This is a clever campaign. There are other commercials out there, with a rabbit, crab, etc. Very Smart.

Now, this is an example of a bad commercial. Does it make you want to get a AT&T cell phone? Does it make you want to get your kids a phone? No, it doesn't. It reminds you how stupid text speak is (and really, no one actually talks like that) and how stupid kids are. This AT&T commercial makes you NOT want to get your family a cellphone. Kinda not the point of advertising, right?

This is a funny commerical. But, all I can think of is Roger Clemens wife taking HGH, and THAT is how they decided to play it to Congress. whatever, Rog.

nytimes article on text messaging and the great divide.

Sunday Morning Post

SNL last night was pretty good. Not great, just average I guess. I really really like Vampire Weekend more now than before. They are odd but affecting, no? Remember a month ago when I posted "I wish SNL will have cool music guests, like Vampire Weekend"? remember?

I'm not even going to bother posting the videos. NBC takes youtube down pretty quickly

Sia Breath Me - Six Feet Under

Remember the end of Six Feet Under? That is a show that knows how to end. In laymen's term - that's a fucking montage. Just found this on youtube, enjoy:

What I bought today: George Rodrigue Prints

Other than food, essentials, toilet paper and beer, this is what I bought today:
I actually have a couple of Rodrigue prints, so they suckered me in on this book which is signed and includes all his prints. The problem with collecting Rodrigue, is eventually, they all look the same. How many pictures can you have in your house of the same dog? here's mine, still hasn't been hung:

Danger Cat Post

You have to admit, it is a pretty cool picture. Let's come up with a caption!

Thursday night Lost American Idol

Well, all I can say about Idol is that I'm not disappointed. I would rather the other blonde to have been voted off, but I'll take whatshername. I am glad the Noriega show is over and nipped in the bud, but Jacuzzi doesn't have much longer.

No real posts tonight, I'm tired. So I'll leave this about the Grand Canyon is 10 million years older than thought. Sure enough to confuse the creationists.

Gnarls Barkley new video

I think it is called Runaway. It is getting a lot of internet coverage because it failed the "Harding Test" and therefore was banned by MTV. Supposedly it could cause seizures. The psychedelic stuff starts around 2:06

Good song

American Idol Girls, Nobody puts Baby in a Corner

Idol girls are not as good as the guys. I still like Amanda, aka Rocker Chick, and Brook did an interesting slowdown to the awesomest video ever, Pat Benatar Love is a Battlefield. I can dispense with the blondes, starting with Kady from Houston. Chick don't know how to have fun. Probably Asian chick is out too.

In strange, news, National Enquirer reported that Patrick Swayze has 5 weeks to live and is suffering from pancreatic cancer. All the blogs put it out there but with an asterisk and WTF, but Perez confirmed yet from an alleged statement from the publisher. At least confirmed the Cancer.

I loved his character in Donnie Darko. Here's bestweekever take on the news, which had just yesterday published a funny top 20 Swayze acting looks from Dirt Dancing. Today they sort of said sorry but we didn't know he was sick?

Her is cdan take on the news with an interesting, thoughtful spin. And some great youtube clips highlighting Swayze's career.

McCain Obama Clinton Americal Idol The Wire

I'm just trying to get as many people as possible to hit on my blog. Hit me!

interesting nyt article why McCain supporters want Obama to win - because He can beat him on his Iraq position (which will matter in the election.

My latest purchase. We'll see if it is good but it would be good for breakfast and after working out, since I don't eat dinner. Someone at work swears by it and says it will help not hurt by adding to the workout by building more tissue and burning more fat. Or something like that.

Gosh AI sucks tonight. I guess the 80s did suck. Well others disagreed, Danny Noriega is sassy and annoying but he gives good chatter to Ryan, who should learn to be comfortable with his own gayness, you know?

We had a great soccer game tonight: won in literally the last second (yes 1 second on clock) with me shooting and the guy finishing it. It is impossible to put down here how exciting it was for a bunch of mostly engineers in a rec league to have a win like that. We hugged after the goal!

okay, enough for the night I'm going to sleep. Goodnight.

I'll link tomorrow to some good AI reviews and some political commentary, because I am too lazy to write my own.

One last thing, many are arguing that Sunday night's penultimate episode of the Wire, Latest Editions, was probably the best episode of the series and possibly the best hour of television ever. Yes, even better than the Sopranos.

If you haven't watched the Wire, netflix it from season 1 and just start watching in awe. Critics are usually right, and they are here.

Cat post - cat haters please ignore; some political commentary included

So I don't know if this Chavez war with Colombia is real, but Drudge has it so here it is.

Oscar winning actress is a niave, ignorant, self-absorbed, FRENCH, bitch who doesn't believe 9-11 happened or we walked on the moon. Scratch that movie off my netflix, thanks.

My new clock says it is going to rain today. It looks like it is right. It is 72 outside but 78 inside, how is that possible? maybe I'll turn a fan on and open a window. Hope the cat doesn't jump out.

Speaking of cat, wouldn't life be good if all we had to do was sleep?

Sunday Post - Pushing Daisies

I don't know why i thought of this show, probably because I saw Kristen Cheneworth on Stranger Then Fiction (great movie) so I immediately thought of Pushing Daisies, the new ABC show. I love that show, it is cute and clever and well written and occasionally, people break out into song. I think it will have some new eps this spring, and it is definitely picked up for next season.

and because I like singing:

New Ironman Trailer

This and Batman the Dark Knight are definitely my favorite movies of the summer:

In other news, Americans are relying on credit cards too much. duh. So are we officially in a recession?

A nyt article on the Justice League of America movie. And a reference to the Watchmen: March 2009!!!!!!!!

I watched Michael Clayton last night. Great movie. I can see how Tilda whatshername won the Oscar.
